I’ve always loved Physics – not just a good idea, it’s the law!

For example, a “RAMP” is defined as an inclined plane: a supporting surface tilted at an angle, with one end higher than the other, used as an aid for raising or lowering a load. Ramps are widely used to move heavy loads over vertical obstacles; in our case, The Ramp is designed to help you move your songwriting skills from one level to a higher level.

Scientifically speaking, moving an object up a Ramp requires less force than lifting it straight up, at a cost of an increase in the distance moved.   The mechanical advantage of a Ramp, the factor by which the force is reduced, is equal to the ratio of the length of the sloped surface to the height it spans. Due to conservation of energy, the same amount of mechanical energy (work) is required to lift a given object by a given vertical distance, disregarding losses from friction, but the Ramp allows the same work to be done with a smaller force exerted over a greater distance.

I bet you never knew just how scientific all this is, did you?

So, what the heck is this all about?  Well, the concept is simple: SongRamp is a place where you can grow your songwriting skills, at your own pace, to whatever heights you choose for yourself.  Sort of like the ability to control the incline on a treadmill – the steeper you set the ramp, the harder you work to reach your goal.  Same with your songwriting.  You can take your time, learning and evolving at your own pace.  Or, you can take advantage of our relationships with pro writers and our association with Nashville Songwriters Association International, to make the Ramp steeper and go for the stars!

It’s all up to you.

So, next time you sit down, sign in to SongRamp and post a song, feel free to wear your lab coat – you are, after all, practicing Physics!

Everyday, tens of thousands of songs are written, all over the world. Most will never be heard. Many more will only be sung by the songwriter, either in small circles of friends, or on a small stage somewhere. Very, very few will ever make the mainstream of radio. But, that doesn’t stop the song...View More
