I cry because I feel for you

I cry because you never will

The pain of understanding

The ache of what never was can kill

I could see but never reach you

Drawn like an butterfly to the sun

Like a dream just out of reach

Our tale over before it had really begun

The years keep flowing

Like a river toward the sea

The feelings never stopped growing

Though you never really wanted me

I look back now through time

Knowing what’s beyond my reach

Every dog they say will have his day

But I guess I’m too old to teach

Old photos stir memories anew

Harbingers of bygone times

On one hand cursing our meeting

The other thinking of sad poetry lines

What would I do if you appeared now

Would I run and take you in my arms

Am I still the fool I used to be

Still a pawn to your wicked charms

The years keep flowing

Like a river toward the sea

The feelings never stopped growing

Though you never really wanted me

I look back now through time

Knowing what’s beyond my reach

Every dog they say will have his day
But I guess I’m too old to teach

Should try harder to forget you

Flush you completely from my soul

But I am still just too intoxicated

And completely yours to control

And so I sit here still

And I pray you can read my mind

I always knew you’d be leaving

But did you have to leave me behind?

The years keep flowing

Like a river toward the sea

The feelings never stopped growing

Though you never really wanted me

I look back now through time

Knowing what’s beyond my reach

Every dog they say will have his day
But I guess I’m too old to teach
