.....  guess I kind of arrived a bit too late.

I found this site link while reading some tips and such on MAB's website and thought the idea of sharing some songs, receiving critique, and scoping out the works of other songwriters would be fun so here I am. After reading some of the threads about the activity level being low and quite a few last posts in topics being 2015, I would have a sense that this site might be another casualty of FaceBook (which I utterly hate). Who knows, maybe I am wrong.

A little about me. I am in my early 50's and have been writing songs (most not very good I am sure) since the first time I picked up a guitar and decided I would learn how to play, which wasn't until I was about 21 years old if I remember correctly. I figured it wasn't too late to start since frank Zappa didn't start playing until he was 21 as well.

I went for a number of years writing quite a few songs but never did anything with them and soon It was as if all my songwriting desires/abilities/inspiration (take your pick) dried up and for many years I had not written a new song. Luckily a few years back I was noodling on the guitar and a new song just poured out (I like those kind). It inspired me to continue playing and writing more and although the inspiration seems 'touch and go' at times, I finally decided to start making whatever recording I could of what I have, as time and drive dictates, so at least when I am I toes up and pushing daisies, maybe my kids, grandkids, etc.. might be inspired to pursue the art.

lately I have been gaining advice and direction from a friend in Nashville I met through Ham Radio. We Skype occasionally and I bounce songs off him from time to time and he is good for a honest critique. He is not afraid to say "this is all crap but this one is more up tempo and might have a chance", etc....

My philosophy; I would rather be told my 'crap' is 'crap' than to be stroked for fear of "hurting my feelings". I don't have many feelings at all, and what little I do have has been poured into my music, and an occasional surprise gift for my wife, kids, or grandkids.

Oh, and btw, I really don't drink beer that often so it's cool if y'all already emptied the cooler.

William, may I welcome you to SongRamp.  Sadly it's true the site has slowed down from it's former glory but there are still a few that stay active.  I hate to admit I'm one of those that don't visit as often as I once did but that is because I'm a Health Nut and I'm often excersizing and going out on a run.  Well, that is not exactly true but close; the fact is I have little regard for my health, I'm a nut, and I don't exercize at all.  Going out on those runs I mentioned are making a beer run I seem to make more and more these days.  Ha!!!   (don't comment Mikey or I'll tell him about your old haircut).

Hey Brother, your story is not unlike many other songwriters out there that got a late start.  In fact; if you'll notice most of us on this site are part-time singer/songwriters with a story of our own.  Most of us had working careers in another field that paid our bills while allowing us the ability to play around with our songwriting hobby.  In my case, I once traveled as a member of a "Male Revue" which was a male stripper act that traveled from town to town.  Sadly as I got older my physical abilities were no-longer desirable for me to keep my position.  Well, that too is a little mis-leading because my job was as a "Rodie" hired to run on stage after the guys finished their act to pick up their costumes before the ladies gathered them up for souvenirs to take home with them.  As I got older I wasn't as quick to get on stage so they got rid of me.  Ha!!! (totally just teasing).

Hey Brother, you mentioned MAB and reading some posts from his Forum.  I would suggest you go back to MAB's Q&A Forum and ask him any questions you have about songwriting or the music business.  MAB just loves to answer any questions and another new face and new question would be welcome, even though he's answered them all before. Your presence could actually spark some new interest and us old members may join in on your conversation with him.  I love the fact you rarely drink beer, maybe we could become friends and you could become my newest designated driver.  Ha!!!

Hello everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Joel and I live in College Park Maryland. I don't play an instrument but I've been writing lyrics for 30 years and have thousands in a number of different genres some of which I've had transformed into songs. At 57 years of age, I decided to begin marketing songs again. It's been nearly 20 years. I figured I'm not getting any younger.

So I posted an ad on Craigslist seeking musical collaborators with a stellar voice who played a variety of instruments and had a home studio. A fellow who replied told me about this site so here I am. I'm just getting started and must learn how the site works. I hope to meet others who see the merit in my lyrics and wish to collaborate. I'll be focusing mostly on R and B, pop and country. However, I'm willing to work in any genre blues, reggae, zydeco, etc. I'll be seeing you guys around. As New Years is nearly upon us I hope it brings continued health, happiness and prosperity to us all!
