Feeling Free
(Neil Cotton)

I’ve seen it a few times in a farmer’s field

A gate was left open the horses squealed

The sod flew as they kicked up their heels

It seems like forever since I finished grade 2

And that excitement of the last day of school.

Most likely it happened in your life too

Sweet celebrations

Still vivid and strong

They’re memories

Of Feeling free

Memories

Of Feeling Free

He said cancer's gone sticks in my mind

Screaming and jumping slapping high fives

It felt like we had been given new lives

Sweet celebrations

Still vivid and strong

They’re memories

Of Feeling free

Memories

Of Feeling Free

There are…

No walls to hold us

No fences to climb

Just the richness of

Adventures unmined

Sweet celebrations

Still vivid and strong

They’re memories

Of Feeling free

Memories

Of Feeling Free

This one hits me in a personal place - as the dad of a cancer survivor, I can relate. Let me know if you ever want some tweaks and some music for this one.

Cancer hits home with me on so many levels, including losing both my parents to it. I was my Mom’s sole caregiver and helped here with my Dad. We have worked on benefits for children who have it and we have met those children. Everyday, I see/hear somebody else I know with it. To me there is a fight within cancer patients that makes them superheroes fighting against the villain. The reactions toward those with cancer or their loved ones is a mystery. They tend to give up and distance themselves. Sharing songs about cancer is what we need to help the friends and family understand that all they have to do is just have be there.
