Hard Life
Michael L Prather
you held the rain when it was falling it barely filled your hand
another broken promise to this thirsty land
you live the life of a farmer like your daddy did
he broke his back for a living just to keep the family fed
It's a hard life and sometimes you don't know what to do
A wife, two kids and they all look to you
You keep on hauling water in in hopes you can make it past
but if it don't rain soon there's no way you can last
You had to sell off some land to pay the mortgage down
but the bank keeps on calling threatening to shut you down
and the rain won't come so the crops won't grow
sometimes you think about leaving and heading down that road
It's a hard life and sometimes you don't know what to do
A wife, two kids and they all look to you
You keep on hauling water in in hopes you can make it past
but if it don't rain soon there's no way you can last
by this time tomorrow you could be clearly gone
but if you take to running oh will you ever stop
so you put your boots on before first light
and head out to make one more line
It's a hard life and sometimes you don't know what to do
A wife, two kids and they all look to you
You keep on hauling water in in hopes you can make it past
but if it don't rain soon there's no way you can last
