The highway disappears behind us
as we head on into the night
Like we come from nowhere at all
miles lost in the distance
dropping away like the memories
of our old lives

And these are the moments
we dreamed of
in the quiet of the night
and the more we think about
the road up ahead
the more we bury the 
the hours left behind

We set out to find
the rest of our days
in the middle of August
on a promising highway
Closer to dreamland
and a little farther away
from the hell we left behind
and we'll make Memphis tonight

Now we're looking for answers
in the heat of the night
the search goes on in
in the face of those headlights
rolling down that highway
we still got a long way to go
but we'll make Memphis
tonight
