This is the  final version of a lyric I wrote in  Mid 2007. I sent it over to Brian at the end of that year  and its  gone thru many revisions since including  a great acoustic  electric version (posted here) and  finally this  rocked up version   Brian has cut it on his Cd Hard Light  of which you can hear  samples, some of which  were recorded at Neil Finns studio in Auckland, at http://www.brianbaker.com.au    Interesting reading about  his musical background  is also on that  site.  Tainted Alibi © Baker /Westwood



A shallow  Smile She casts no  shadow


 Is it a trick of the light?


 Or  do I see her hesitate  and break her stride


 When I call   she cannot  speak 


Is there someplace she’d rather be ?


Its hard to play the second string 


Give it all and not gain a thing 


 


Tainted alibi  is there  something  she has a reason  to hide 


 Tainted alibi I never know if she  means hello or  goodbye


 


 


 And there’s a certain  kind of distance between her and the truth


 and the words she  uses taste like  some tainted alibi


 


She does this little one act show  


where  the characters  come and  go 


no  flowers no applause silence as the  curtains fall


 the sharpest blade cannot  cuts as deepthe way her words slice into me
