All 'instruments' and percussion: Me, on Korg Triton; and acoustic guitar.
Lead vocal and BGVs and whistling: Me, John Howarth
I wrote this song a few years back, in England, while sitting on top of a hill that I'd climbed. I was in one of my favourite countryside places overlooking an ancient village, where people still lived the 'old fashioned way'. When I saw a middle-aged couple having a simple picnic; that caused me to dream....
Here's what I dreamed......... (-;
I TOOK A WALK DOWN BY THE LAKE
TO LOOK AT THINGS I COULD NOT OWN
I WAS THINKIN’ ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD TAKE
TO SETTLE DOWN AND BUILD A HOME
THEN I SAW HER LYING THERE
A PRETTY FLOWER IN A FIELD OF GREEN
THE SUNLIGHT SHINING THROUGH HER HAIR
THE PRETTIEST SIGHT I’D EVER SEEN
I SAT BESIDE HER IN THE SUN
SHE ASKED IF I WOULD LIKE A DRINK
I DRANK THE COOL TEA DOWN IN ONE
I DIDN’T GIVE HER TIME TO THINK
I LEANED ACROSS AND KISSED HER LIPS
AND THANKFULLY, TO MY SURPRISE
SHE DIDN’T STOP ME, OR RESIST
‘THOUGH SHE HAD TEARDROPS IN HER EYES
SHE CRIED, “OH JOHNNY, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
I’VE BEEN LYING HERE SINCE 12:15
I CAME DOWN HERE TO PLAY YOUR GAME
SO NO TWO DAYS WOULD EVER BE THE SAME.”
I SEEMED TO ME, A GOOD IDEA
THAT WE SHOULD MAKE LIKE STRANGERS DO
A SWEET SURPRISE, A LITTLE FEAR
AS IF WE WERE STARTIN’ SOMETHING NEW
I SAID, “I KNOW IT’S GETTING LATE
BUT I HAD ONE MORE THING TO DO.”
“ONE MORE SURPRISE THAT COULDN’T WAIT;
I BOUGHT THIS DIAMOND RING FOR YOU.”...
SHE SAID, “OH JOHNNY, I LOVE YOU.
OH JOHNNY….. YES I DO”
OH JOHNNY, …….
JOHNNY, JOHNNY… YEA, I WANNA MARRY YOU.”
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
