Ken graciously let me write some new lyrics to a song of his originally called "Delta Spot". My lyrics are inspired by his original story of traveling to Nashville and to the land of the Blues.
Thanks to Ken for the lyrical inspiration, the INCREDIBLE music track and his wonderful mix!
He was very kind to a novice at recording like me. I recorded the vocal at too high a level resulting in a lot of background noise so this mix does not have the clarity of his usual work. I wrote these lyrics for Ken to sing but he has encouraged me to sing it because he is such a gentleman and knows how much I love to sing! So, thank you Ken for letting me go on this fantasy trip to the land of the Blues with you!
BIRTHPLACE OF THE BLUES
MUSIC BY: KEN DAMKIER
LYRICS BY: ANGIE OWENS
March 11, 2010
I’m gonna take a little trip
Down to Mississippi
Visit the birthplace of the blues
I want to stand on the ground
Where they made that sound
Dig down and find my musical roots
Well, they say it gets pretty hot
But I’m gonna stand on the very spot
Where the Devil and Mr. Johnson
Had their little rendezvous
Then I’ll head down South
To the Mississippi’s mouth
Where it empties out into the sea
I’m gonna follow that river
While it gets bigger and bigger
All the way down to
New Orleans
I’ll play the juke joints and dives
Up and down and on both sides
just like the Delta Kings and Queens
BGV – (Take a little trip
Down to Mississipp)
Visit the birthplace of the blues
I’m going to follow that river
While it gets bigger and bigger
I want to find my musical roots
I’m gonna play my slide
Make my guitar cry
Like Elmore James I Believe I’ll
Dust My Broom
(Ken's Incredible Slide Guitar Lead)
Why don’t you all come and go with me (spoken)
I’ll sing songs about living
Songs about dying
And songs about what happens in between
I want to stand on that ground
Where they made that sound
Dig down and find my musical roots
I’m gonna pay my dues
To that slow burning groove
At the Birthplace of the Blues
