The Weeping Willow Of Time
from half a block away
she looked like just another lady
who would soon be passing by
as I stood in my yard, killing time
just getting some air, and blowing smoke
when I blurted out, you look familiar
she said you do too, and I took another toke
we both laughed as if it were some kind of joke
I said well hello Jane it's been quite awhile
she exclaimed, Richard is that you
none other, it's good to see your smile
forty years, and the miles have been kind
back in the day we were just friends
though we gave each other the eye
we were too shy, to date, only unsung
messages to send, only unsung messages to send
As she was walking away, I said Jane, please stay
haven't we already missed too many yesterdays
it was then......
the weeping willow of time gently caressed us
and softly covered us in its love
I whispered, I've traveled the world
married a girl, raised children too
but always in a special corner of my mind
there was you, there was you
she calmly spoke of her life
and being a widowed wife
with three grown kids of her own
and then as if on cue
she said me too
