Maggie And The Plan
-
there was an old lady
who turned eighty yesterday
who got married to celebrate
and to keep her plan updated
-
Maggie had been hitched
three times before
Peter was husband number four
he was a funeral director
-
every twenty years Maggie
married a new man
at two score she took on a banker
to be her first husband
-
and it was a life of crepe suzettes
and pheasant under glass
they tasted the world from up on high
Maggie and Hank the banker
-
like clockwork when Maggie turned forty
she stood on the alter, with Bob
who was a circus ring master, Bob was
quite the clown, Maggie never frowned
-
and they tripped the lights fantastic
juggling three rings with either hand
there was never a dull moment
oh the sound of laughter, when Bob was around
-
tick tick tick, and Maggie was sixty
and though she was still feeling nifty
she clamed onto Paul the preacher
and from the good book he would teach her
-
they spent every sunday in church
and Maggie liked the view from her pirch
it was a comfort to know, Paul thought
heaven would welcome Maggie after earth
-
When asked to divulge why
she married such different Joe's
Maggie winked, it's all part of the plan
I married one for the money
two for the show
three to get ready
and four to go....
