I have long been a admirer of the writings of the 13th century poet and mystic, Rumi. In this song I have gathered some of Rumi's better known quotes and tried to shape them into a narrative that flows and still retains the original meaning of the message. I also had to shape the lyric to fit an intriguing little melody that John had already sent me. John's astonishing vocal and subtle musical touches completed the journey. Quite the experiment! :)
Here is the quote which was my inspiration for the whole thing...and forms the chorus of the song:-
Many thanks to John for accompanying me on this unusual song journey :)
There is a Meadow
D.Rulliere/J.Kenney ©2013
you've been watching your shadow at play
and you've found it's too hard to outrun
is it time that you shifted your gaze
into the sun
there's a door you've been beating upon
now you find it stands open and wide
and you see you've been knocking so long
from the inside
out beyond right and wrong
there is a meadow somewhere
all is lost and all is one
I will meet with you there
there's a treasure within you to mine
you don't need to go searching for gold
cause it's been waiting here all the time
inside your soul
for the secret of love is to fly
let the shackles of living fall free
til at last you can walk on the sky
slip out of your feet
out beyond right and wrong
there is a meadow somewhere
all is lost and all is won
I will meet with you there
(guitar)
so you dance when you're broken and low
and you dance when you're torn and you bleed
and you dance and you dance til you know
you're perfectly free
out beyond right and wrong
there is a meadow somewhere
all is lost and all is one
I will meet with you there
