The Garden of my Soul
My body is a tangle of unravelled thorns
My heart is scratched and torn
Pain-tinged raindrops kiss my face
In a faint futile embrace
Forget-me-nots are fading fast they will not last
And summer's blooms have passed
Love-lies-bleeding lingering on
But the thyme has almost gone
Everything is dying
In the garden of my soul
The willows watch and weep
As I sweep away the leavings
Of a life no longer whole
The nightingale has songs for sale
They are not wanted here
The air will not be clear enough
For his sweet soulful call
Sadness suffocates all sound
Soon there'll be none at all
Everything is lying
In my garden of belief
The great oak chokes back tears
As I clear away my freedom
To plant the seeds of grief
