I was asked to play at a Birthday party for a friend of a friend. It was on a ranch about 40 miles south of Edmonton. The Stage was A flat bed trailer,Mosquitos needed a landing strip, Beautiful country though, Clean air, no noise. The owner of the land was as I discovard after speaking with him,was An ex rodeo clown, stories he told were endless, full of life, and always ended with a joke..This is What I came up as a tribute for Ringo, yes his name was really Ringo.
Rodeo Riding Ringo Stew Dopking 2010
Rodeo Ridin Ringo was his circuit name
Perfect natural cowboy, born to entertain
His rodeo days are gone, still works his own land
Far as characters go,he still carries his own brand
His face shows how the cold prairie winds blow
Hard Years of living, made his heart like stone
Many A horse he's broken with his Iron will
Sunrise to sunset each day he works still
Chorus
I'm just a singer watching from the stage
Looking at a man who won't turn the page
Brought here to sing a song and found one in you
A rodeo riding clown who's riding days are thru
He reached in his shirt, lit another smoke
Turned to tell a story. then coughed when he spoke
talked about quiting and buddies who passed away
Conversation stopped as he reached for a word to say
Ringo asked to speak and would it be okay
Told how he felt about this special day
Heartfelt words flowed from his unbridled tongue
How everybody here was truly welcome
Chorus
Rodeo riding Ringo was his circuit name
Perfect natural cowboy born to entertain
