In loving memory of Jimmy Lee Smith (1932-2007)... I'd like to think of this as one of the last two sermons Jimmy Lee ever delivered.  I've uploaded the  other as "Did God Put You Here?"  Old Songman knew how to portray despair, but he always pointed the way to hope.

    ONE-RUNG LADDER

The blind misguided rabble
Built the Tower of Babel;
Found its not good to dabble
In the things of the Lords.

The tallest skyscraper,
Like the best plans on paper,
Can be reduced to vapor 
The past cant be ignored.

The cross is a one-rung ladder
That leads to Paradise.
With our God, size doesnt matter;
That one rung will suffice.

Life can be simply stated,
But we make it complicated.
Every move is debated;
We weigh life down with words.

No high office power
In some ivory tower
Can escape the final hour
Were all heading toward.
