I HAVE LIVED MY LIFE

I have lived my life by the Book,
Always giving more than I took,
Never giving Sin a second look.
Now it all comes down to this.

I have been torn by sorrow, touched by bliss,
Savaged by a smile, healed by a kiss,
Hit the mark more than Id miss.
Thats how my life has passed by.

This is how my life has passed me by:
Ive seen my close friends so often lie;
Seen even closer friends go off and die;
Felt white-hot pain, heard a whispered Why?
And Life, never once, even murmured.

Though Life, never once, even murmured,
I have lived my life in the Word,
Tried to live the Truth that Ive heard,
Now, my youths taken wing, like a bird,
And the Truth shouts out from the throne.

The Truth shouts out from the throne:
Lay all your good works upon this stone.
Now, kneel over there, all alone,
Now, close your eyes.  What do you see?
That shows how much your good works mean to me.

Now see what your good works mean to me?

Surprise your soul with salvation at last.

That I was sent to set you free.
