This is a song Sarah & I wrote for a friend who has had problems getting over his first love
I've had the melody awhile and thought it kinda Spanish-flavored,with a tango style for verse melody and more salsa style for chorus...working title was the "tango song" or "Shakira"..lol..
Still-Beating Heart
Music by Timothy Scott, Lyrics by Sarah Geis & Timothy Scott
(1) The late night calls / months in between
Turn his resolve / to a puddle fast spreading at his feet
He could resist / but they both know / that they will meet
(2) He lies awake / replays the scene
Buries his face / in her imprint still on the hotel sheets
Her scent of cloves / invades his ev’/ry fantasy
Chorus:
She is the secret he cannot keep
Tip of his tongue, it feels so numb he cannot speak
She’s held his heart since age fifteen
Holding her may be his one way to make it beat
Bridge:
But he’s not sure if he can stand the pain
When she slips back on her ring
And he watches her walk away
Again and again and again…
(3) To be set free / they must be caught
Wants to believe / he would win the fight he has never fought
She won’t approve / of such naive romantic thoughts.
(4) Is he just weak? / Should he have known
She would not leave / all the safe comforts of her husband’s home?
Even today / after her chil/dren are now grown
Chorus:
She is the secret he cannot keep
Tip of his tongue, it feels so numb he cannot speak
She’s held his heart since age fifteen
Holding her may be his one way to make it beat
Bridge:
But he’s not sure if he can stand the pain
When she slips back on her ring
And he watches her walk away
Again and again and again…
