The DNC is being held this time around in Charlotte,my hometown...Sarah and I have been watching both parties and have been pretty shocked at the willingness to mislead and ignore the facts in order to get votes, rather than focusing on the serious issues we face. But when we really thought about it, we realized we are angry at the American people who fail to demand the truth and do not really participate in the process in a meaningful way. What can we do? Write a song about it, of course! We wrote this and headed downtown to play it on the streets...
We Cannot Be Ignored
Music by Timothy Scott
Lyrics by Sarah Geis
V1) The videos keep streaming and the tweets flow in
The news is broken by Fox & CNN
We watch but why are we not listening?
We want to be entertained
V2) Don’t hate the unions or the businessmen
Can’t blame the media or the politicians
They drove us deeper into this mess we’re in
But we handed them the reigns
Chorus:
Words count
Tell them the facts really matter
And the truth demands to be heard
Votes count
Believe your voice really matters
Together we cannot be ignored….together we cannot be ignored
V1) We let the conversation become a fight
No middle ground remains between left and right
No thought more complex than a clever sound byte
Meant to prey upon our fears
V2) Our silence only feeds the anger and lies
You can shut them down by opening your mind
Resurrect the lost art of the compromise
Speak the things you need to hear
