My first rap song!! :))
Many thanks to Tony and Joe!
Below is my original lyric. Joe changed a few words here and there to improve the flow.
Listen.....
Can You Hear It?
Listen
Can you hear it
Coming nearer
Can you feel it
Not the hip hop beat
In the midnight streets
Not the old man's scream
As a switchblade gleams
Not the mother's cries
As her soldier son dies
Or the smart talking bombs
That can do no wrong
Not the platitudes
Of the politician dudes
Not the murmurs of the meek
As they turn the other cheek
Not the juggernauts
Or the SUVs
Or the careless talk
Of dying trees
Not the icebergs crashing
As the oceans warm
Or the hurricane passing
In a murderous storm
Listen
Can you hear it
Coming nearer
Can you feel it
Not the tsunami roar
Or the guns of war
Or the terrorist threat
Or the exercet
Not the fascist chants
As the racists dance
On the broken bones
Of a black unknown
Not the roll call of the dead
Or the words unsaid
By untended graves
Of a warmonger's slaves
Not the talk, talk, talk
No-one listens to
They've heard it all
And it ain't the truth
Not the rich man counting
His pots of gold
While the tramp in the ditch
Whimpers in the cold
Listen
Can you hear it
Coming nearer
Can you feel it
It's not the infants' sobbing
As their lives are slowly ebbing
Whose eyes are full of flies
Drowning in the tears they cry
Not the sighing of the land
As it dies by human hand
Or the choking dark despair
From Chernobyl's deadly air
Not the Holocaust's death cry
From the millions who died
Not the bugler's Last Post
In a Flanders field of ghosts
Not the mindless chatter
Of the heartless middle class
While they are getting fatter
Ten million lives are lost
Not the hypocritic words
Of the ones who seek to blame
In the name of the Lord
But they take His name in vain
Listen
Can you hear it
Coming nearer
Can you feel it
It's the sound of the bell
At the gates of Hell
It's the silent shout
As the lights go out
