High school talent show, lord you should’ve seen me go


I had ‘em all shouting my name


Next stop Hollywood, could I really be that good


On my way to fortune and fame


 


But I learned real quick, if you want to get a hit


California ain’t the place to be


So I gassed up the car, packed up my guitar


And headed out for Tennessee


 


They’re gonna love me in Nashville


I’ll be the talk of the town


With my hillbilly feel and my country appeal


And my retro sound


 


I’m gonna make it Nashville


They’re gonna see me shine


I’ll be breakin’ some hearts at the top of the charts


No doubt in my mind


 


Played my music on the street, trying to make enough to eat


I figured that it wouldn’t be long


Till someone up on Music Row put me in a studio


Recording all my fabulous my songs


 


But I soon found out that you gotta have clout


If you want to get your foot in the door


Well, I didn’t know a soul who could help me to my goal


And I couldn’t play the game anymore


 


I couldn’t make it in Nashville


I didn’t have the right look


Even though I could play, and had something to say


All they want is a hook



Wore out my welcome in Nashville


I gotta find a new town


A place where I can be me, and the people can see


I got my feet on the ground
