Sometimes, I believe, we write songs to carry us through transitions in life. They are not meant to be "radio play" but to free the heart of thoughts that linger and to open the door to tommorrow.
I miss my old friend, John. I had grown comfortable in collaborating with him every Monday for six years. Friendships are forged through music. John passed away on November 19th. His birthday will be remembered on May 16th.
Here is a link to John's SR page and his songs: http://www.songramp.com/homepage.php?userid=12309
I contacted Sheila with a request to compose a melody for our old friend. John was a friend to many here on Songramp including Josefllama(Gordon Graham) who composed melodies with him for over a decade and Kassanna(debcarter). John surrounded himself with collaborators and encouragement. I didn't have a clue where I would go with my writing when November came and went....and this lyric simply helped me close one door and open another.
Thank you for listening to our tribute to our old friend, John Bonner. I will forward this link to his wife Jackie Bonner and his sisters: Eileen, Theresa, Anne and brother, Patrick.

verse one:
I talked to you this morning,
nothing more than how my day began
And how the morning weatherman
Promises more snow, again
Can you believe
how cold it’s been?
verse two:
And as I talked and laughed
old photographs of yesterdays
Came back to me like movies
Playing from old memories
And I feel you
Near me, again.
Chorus:
Oh….my old friend.
how I miss your company
Come and comfort me, again….
If only……for a little while…
If only.....for a little while....
Oh…oh.......oh
my old friend.
Sometimes I feel you near me
Then you seem, a million stars away
No, I still can not believe
You left so quietly...
I wasn’t ready
To let you go
I talk to you ‘most everyday
As silence rests here in your place
I dream of words you might say,
And sadness leaves me
I feel a smile light up my face.
Chorus:
oh my old friend...
how I miss your company
Come and comfort me, again….
If only…..For a little while....
If only.....for a little while...
Oh…oh...oh....my old friend.
How I miss your company
Come and comfort me, again..
My old friend.
My old friend.
My old friend.
