I had the joy of playing bass in little, regional bluegrass bands for 20 years and during that time, although I liked playing bass, I never was allowed to sing. First of all, I'm close to a baritone which doesn't sound very pretty coming out of a female bluegrass singer....it's a lot like a goose honk coming out of a swan....it's just not pretty.
Secondly......I have no volume....don't know why....but I'm soft spoken which was wonderful building trust as a Kindergarten teacher.....but worthless on stage.
So I was delegated to the back pew of the stage......bass player...get in the back.
One Saturday morning.....I was listening to a bluegrass CD of gospel songs and wishing I could sing.....and I thought....one day....in Heaven....I bet God's going to give me a beautiful voice.
And this is the lyric that followed:
He'll Give Me a Voice

I’m ready to go to my Heavenly home
I’m ready to bow before the Heavenly throne
I’m ready today if He calls me home
For I know I will never be alone.
He’ll Give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
One that will ring across Heaven’s golden clouds
He’ll give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
And I will sing in that Heavenly angel choir.
My burdens are heavy, He will make them light
My days are dark but He will make them bright
My days are lonely, He will fill them with love
And I know I will rest in my home above.
He’ll Give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
One that will ring across Heaven’s golden clouds
He’ll give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
And I will sing in that Heavenly angel choir.
I will fly away up to Heaven above
And I will meet with those I love
What a glorious day it soon will be
When my dear Savior comes to carry me.
He’ll Give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
One that will ring across Heaven’s golden clouds
He’ll give me a voice
A Heavenly voice
And I will sing in that Heavenly angel choir.
Yes, I will sing in that Heavenly angel choir.
