As songwriters, we know that some of the best ideas for songs come from true life experiences, both good and bad. This is one that I wrote a while back after a bad experience a few years ago, and after hearing about a similar experience a friend of mine told me about. To me, this is one of those songs that needed to be written.
SHE'LL TELL YOU
She’ll tell you that she loves you
She’ll tell you that she cares
She’ll tell you what she wants you to hear
And you’ll believe that she’s so sincere
She’ll tell you that you’re a blessing
She’ll tell you you’re a gift to her from God
She’ll tell you that you’ll never lose her
And you’ll hang on every word
You won’t want to see the signs saying “danger ahead”
Or the red flags going up from right to left
She’ll be so high on that pedestal that you’ve put her on
That you’ll never think that she could ever do you wrong
She’ll tell you that she'll never hurt you
She’ll tell you that you’re a big part of her life
She’ll tell you that you can trust her completely
And you’ll think you won’t ever have to worry
She’ll tell you that she’ll be your friend forever
She’ll tell you you’re significant to her
She’ll tell you she understands your fear of another heartbreak
And you’ll take to heart every promise that she makes
You’ll believe deep down in your soul that what you have with her is real
You’d do anything for her for the way she makes you feel
She’ll lift you up, just to knock you down
She’s a raging fire, and she’ll burn you to the ground
She’ll tell you, oh, she’ll tell you
She’ll tell you anything but the truth
