WISH I COULD REMEMBER
Marc Alan Barnette / Big Ed Moore
Stacked up, packed up, plane delays, sitting next to a guy with USA Today
I asked him if he was through with the sports page, time seems to loosen up the tongue
So I asked him where he was coming from, the story he told me took my breath away
Said I’m headed on, my way home, Spent the week with my son and grandson
Haven’t seen him for 15 years, Just wanted to see how he looked
Somehow I found him on Facebook, after while he asked me down here
As I looked into that man’s eyes, a tear ran down his cheek
And he was holding back from letting go, This is what he said to me
Chorus
WE WENT TO A MARLINS GAME, FISHING OUT ON ACORN LAKE
ALL THE THINGS I NEVER KNEW WE’D DONE
CAUSE I SURE DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT, EVERYTHING THE BOTTLE HAD BLOCKED OUT
THEN I HEARD MY BOY TALKING TO HIS SON
ABOUT OUR LAST CHRISTMAS TOGETHER
I GUESS IT WAS GREAT JUST WISH I COULD REMEMBER
I asked the man did he need a drink, he said no why do you think
We ended up so far out of touch, married his Mom when we were young
Fell apart cause of what I'd done, at the time I didn’t think I drank that much
Was the life of every party, And that’s ‘bout all I did
You don’t realize what you forget, Till you hear it from your kid
Chorus
Bridge
Our flights were called, he walked away,
turned and headed toward his plane
As he gave me one more wave, I could still hear him say
Chorus 3
WE WENT TO A MARLINS GAME, FISHING OUT ON ACORN LAKE
ALL THE THINGS I NEVER KNEW WE’D DONE
CAUSE I SURE DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT, EVERYTHING THE BOTTLE HAD BLOCKED OUT
BUT NOW I LOOK AHEAD TO WHAT WILL COME
NEXT CHRISTMAS WE’LL BE TOGETHER
AND THIS TIME I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER
