This is a "side by side analasys of the meter of the verses one and two. A way that I do when developing songs.
DENTS IN THE CHROME
MAB/Kenneth Cooper
3-21-11
Had my learners permit for 21 days
I was riding with him and heard him say
On this country back road why don’t you try it
I checked the mirrors, adjusted the seat
Pulled that safety belt tight around me
Thought I was ready gave it gas and went sliding
Mailbox came out of nowhere, put a big ol’ gash in the side
I sat there in disbelief, he looked at me and sighed
CHORUS
You’re gonna get dents in the chrome
Each one reminds you what you did wrong
Can’t go through life without paying a price
For getting out on the road
But remember it ain’t yours alone
So as long as you’re traveling on
You’re gonna get dents in the chrome
Fast forward five long years
Graduated college to Mama’s tears
Thousand pizza deliveries made the down payment
Went over to the old man’s place
And saw the pride in his face
When I said give her a whirl Dad, so he burned up the pavement
Took that curve on Lake Street, just a little too fast
Barely nicked that caution sign, I kind of looked at him and laughed
Chorus
You can always make a few mistakes
No matter how long behind the wheel
If you learn a few new tricks, it can be fixed
Just always keep it real
