PJ Steelman songs
My buddy, Christian Kohran, and I set out to write this song about 4 years ago, we worked a full evening and came up with about 4 pages of absolutely worthless lyrics. We did keep the hook line, though. Well, this spring I found that hook line and decided to do a total re write on this one. I liked the way it came out. Chrisian and I used to cross over Sunset Drive in Kingsport a couple of times a week, that is what we originally wrote it about...that Sunset Drive. But, it could be about any street in your hometown...Smith Road maybe. But, Sunset Drive just had a better ring to it.
When I recorded it, Lawrence Ealey did the lead guitar, Olivia Raney sang the harmony slots and my son, Alex did the drum work. I hope you enjoy this one.
Sunset Drive
CK/PJ
You can go anywhere on Sunset Drive
It's a great way to live your life
Find people and places where you've never been
If you're lucky somebody might call you a friend
On Sunset Drive, on Sunset Drive
Put it in low and pull off the highway
Into the parking lot
Get something to eat at the Sunset Diner
Better get it while it's hot
There's Janie, she's there every morning
Serving coffee that sips just right
Gravy and eggs to start off the day
And that look form the corner of her eye
On Sunset Drive, On Sunset Drive
She wipes her hands on her apron
And smiles while she tells you her dreams
She'd like to travel and see the whole world
And she would if she just had the means
You tell her you leave in five minutes
Just time enough to grab her things
Two Cokes to go and two willing souls
And just enough gasoline
You can go anywhere on Sunset Drive
It's a great way to live your life
Find people and places where you've never been
If you're lucky somebody might call you a friend
On Sunset Drive, on Sunset Drive
