Just over ten years ago my daughter's best friend was killed in a tragic car crash. A few days later, some pictures were developed that had been taken about an hour before the accident. Amy was talking to someone and was holding out her hand pointing with her finger. There was an unexplained light positioned as though it were resting on her fingertip (about the size of Tinkerbell in relative size). To Amy's family and friends it appeared to be shaped like a tiny angel and they found comfort in the thought that her guardian angel had been with her.
I was inspired to write a poem about it at that time but I knew I wanted to tell this story in a song someday (though I did not yet conceive of myself as a songwriter).
The first set of lyrics I showed Mike Cunningham ("texpiano" on SR) had the basic story idea but I have to say were not worthy of being a song even though they made it to the second round of judging (lyrics only) in the International Songwriting Competition.
The song as you see and hear it is totally the product of Mike's and my joint efforts in terms of both the lyrics and music. Of course, you would not hear it except for Mike's incredible talent and for that I am truly grateful.
We both have a special feeling about our song and hope that it will touch your hearts. We welcome all constructive comments and hope you will share your thoughts/reactions/feelings with us. Thank you from the depths of our hearts for listening.

Verse
My baby girl was born today.
I'll never forget her face.
She stared at me so innocently,
Then turned her head and
cooed into empty space.
And her grandma said,
"She's talkin? to her angel ? you see,
Chorus
There's an angel right beside her, who will always be there
To watch her every moment, to hear her every prayer.
And, when she's lost and all alone,
To help her find her way,
To help her find her way back home."
Verse
Eighteen, she's leaving home
To move into a place of her own.
She looked at me reassuringly
And said, "Don't worry, I'll
call you on the phone!"
As she drove from sight
her grandma's words came back to me.
Chorus
There's an angel right beside her,
who will always be there
To watch her every moment,
to hear her every prayer.
And, when she's lost and all alone,
To help her find her way,
To help her find her way back home."
Verse
She called me on the phone tonight.
I'll never forget how she cried.
Tears began to run down my cheeks
As she told me that
Her best friend had just died.
And my baby girl said,
"I wish you were here to hold me."
Bridge
She reminds me
how short is our time
And how precious is
this gift we call life.
Verse
She showed me a picture today
Of her friend who passed away.
She pointed next to her friend and said,
"Can you see it? Look!"
And I couldn't believe my eyes.
Taken right before she had died,
There was an angel by her side.
Chorus
There was an angel right beside her,
who had always be there
Tto watch her every moment,
to hear her every prayer.
And, when she was lost and all alone,
To help her find her way,
To help her find her way back home.
Tag
To take her hand and lead her home,
There was an angel right beside her
who had always been there.
