VERSE
In 1958 when I was only three-foot-ten
There was a place I loved to go down by the riverbend
Where cowboys ridin’ horses would come from miles around
And fire their guns…in Old Nueces Town
CHORUS
From Up River Road to the Corpus Christi Bay
Cathedral bells would ring and then they would pray
For a hundred miles around you would hear the people say
They’ve fired another round…in Old Nueces Town
VERSE
There was an old saloon where all these cowboys used to play
They’d shuffle cards and smoke cigars and soon you’d hear one say
If you don’t lose I’ll shoot your boots and lay your body down
And that’s the way they played…in Old Nueces Town
CHORUS
From Up River Road to the Corpus Christi Bay
Cathedral bells would ring and then they would pray
For a hundred miles around you would hear the people say
They’ve fired another round…in Old Nueces Town
VERSE
You’re prob’ly wondering why they’d let me come to have a seat
And watch them fire their guns as they’d drop into the street
It looked like it was real but their bullets were only blanks
They’d soon be standing up…and they would reconcile their pranks
CHORUS
From Up River Road to the Corpus Christi Bay
Cathedral bells would ring and then they would pray
For a hundred miles around you would hear the people say
They’ve fired
another round…
