Wish I could be there, like I used to be

Wish I were there to brush your hair,

Sometimes I don't know what I'm here for...

I took the picture off the fridge, you know, that pretty one you drew,

And brought it halfway around the world here Just to have a piece of you,

I keep it tucked inside my helmet, Like a typical G.I.,

Then I unfold it every evening And sing a Soldier's Lullaby,

Wish we could wish away all wars...
