Ritt sent me a message in January, and used the phrase "cement shoes". I sent a message back saying "Now there's a blues song title!". Within about 4 minutes, he'd sent two verses over, followed about 20 minutes later with the rest of the song. Nash kindly agreed to do the vocals on the January version, this is my take on it.......
Cement Shoes
Words Ritt, music/vocals Tony Charnock
on the bottom of many a river
lie corpses that refuse to float
on the bottom of many a river
lie corpses that refuse to float
concrete is cheaper than horses
and it doesn't rock the boat
if you wake up wearing cement shoes
brother you got them unfixable blues
if you wake up wearing cement shoes
brother you got them unfixable blues
Houdini couldn't break you lose
guess you shoulda paid your dues
cement shoes
nobody is paying to drain the pond (that's just something they're fond of saying)
cement shoes
you know you should have quit
before they measured you for the perfect fit
it was just a game of three card monti
suckers play, I've seen it all before
it was just a game of three card monti
suckers play, I've seen it all before
the switcheroo and the snatch
I saw the catch, and played to the draw
but little did I know,
but little did I know,
the queen had vacated the scene
a long, long, time ago
cement shoes
nobody is paying to drain the pond (that's just something they're fond of saying)
cement shoes
you know you should have quit
before they measured you for the perfect fit
no matter the truth
no matter what you believe
no matter the truth
no matter what you believe
there just no way
you can call a liar a thief
next time you hear someone say
come in the water is fine
next time you hear someone say
come in the water is fine
take the time to think it over
there's a good chance they're lying
