Daddy wasnt perfect... times were hard when we were young


He tried to be a father and I think I tried to be a son


Daddy worked on the railroad... when I was born...lookin back its a good thing that he did


I was gonna be a long train of tribulation...If hed a seen it coming he would have hid


Daddy had temper...we walked on pins and needles in our house


He was a lot more fun with a few drinks...gave us big ole bear hugs and quarters... you could even see him smile

But he was the best ole daddy I ever had


If they gave out a special prize ... for shaky family ties... I know we would have won


A little rough around the edges but we were still... father and son


Hed say "lets go fishing boy" Id get so excited every time


But Id only end up catching hell ...for playing with my line


Yeah my daddy could fix anything...his tools hung in the tool shed in neat little lines


But he never had one that could fixed us back then..we both just needed a little time


One day mama told me daddy never knew his father...so Iforgave him right there a long time ago


I know he forgave me too....if he didnt...for years he never let it show
