OLD DOG

He's an old dog.
You say he's blind and deaf and cannot taste or smell.
His legs are weak, he trembles and he cannot move too well.
He has no appetite for food, he doesn’t want to play
He moans and whimpers all night long and lays around all day
He wanders ‘round this house like he’s lost inside some fog
He’s an old dog, You say he’s just an old dog…….
But you're wrong, you know….
That old dog
sees the face he loves whenever he looks up,
he feels the same familiar hands that held him as a pup.
He hears his name as he goes running through his memories,
he smells the scent of rabbits that he's chased through old pine trees,
and as he nestles in your arms as his days go slipping by
he tastes the salty tears that you cry.
