Ann Mayo Muir songs
This piece is the second track on my new CD, "NOTES FROM ACROSS THE SEA"
I wrote this when Andrea died. Andrea was lovely and talented and my husband's oldest daughter. Her Papa's right hand on a sailing boat, she could read his mind as he could hers. She lost her mother too early to cancer and was left feeling broken, so she lost herself further in addiction, finally spilling over the edge at 44.
All the kings horses and all the Kings men couldn't put our dear child back together again. We never stopped loving her. She was quiet and shy, loved books and cooking, teaching me her secrets when we were together. She would always help her friends. I am happy that I was one of them.
Married to Andrea's father, Claude, I've been touched by many people, stories, sites, and sounds. With Claude and his two girls, I've traveled and explored many surprising places by sailboat and camper. While I've often taken photos to remember my experiences, music is my truest way of expressing.
As the melodies started to accumulate, my daughter, Christina, had the idea of asking a world class group to record them. While I've been a performer for most of my life, I'm learning that as a writer it's good to not limit myself to only what I can play myself. So we asked ENSEMBLE GALILEI, a Grammy Nominated Early Music/Celtic/Classical Crossover Group (www.EGMusic.com), to arrange and record the tunes, giving birth to this gorgeous CD! Thank you Ensemble Galilei! My heart has been heard!
When my former music partner, Gordon Bok (www.TimberheadMusic.com), heard our CD he wrote me saying, "It blew our hatches off!!" - obviously he's a sailor too ;-) More officially, he wrote in our liner note, "With so many tastes and textures, this CD is a feast for the musical gourmet."
