Ann Mayo Muir songs
With Gordon's permission I am posting a song I have sung for close to 50 years. This was on the first recording we made together. Later when I was married to my sailor, we sailed together to this beautiful island off the coast of Maine. How many of you have traveled into a song you have loved for so long a time? It is a magical experience. That magic has lasted a life time living inside this song which he wrote for the son of a fisherman who made his home there. Gordon and Ed Trickett are playing guitars and I am singing.
ISLE AU HAUT LULLABY by Gordon Bok
If I could give you three things, I would give you these.
Song and laughter and a wooden home in the shining seas.
When you see old Isle au Haut rising in the dawn,
You will play in yellow fields in the morning sun.
Sleep where the wind is warm and the moon is high.
Give sadness to the stars, sorrow to the sky.
When you see old Isle au Haut rising in the dawn,
You will play in yellow fields in the morning sun.
Do you hear what the sails are saying in the winds dark song?
Give sadness to the wind , blown a lee and gone.
When you see old Isle au Haut rising in the the dawn,
You will play in yellow fields in the morning sun.
Sleep now the moon is high and the wind blows cold,
For you are sad and young and the sea is old.
When you see old Isle au Haut rising in the dawn,
You will play in yellow fields in the morning sun.
If I could give you three things, I would give you these,
Song and laughter and a wooden home on the shining seas.
When you see old Isle au Haut rising in
You will play in yellow fields in the morning sun.
