Ann Mayo Muir songs
This is the 12th track of my CD
"NOTES FROM ACROSS THE SEA"
I wrote this for my husband, Claude Graf, who is one of the world's great sailors. He is not famous but he built the very first fiber glass boat after seeing how the material was used in Movie sets at MGM in Hollywood in the early '50s. He made the first strength and resistance tests on that material and built the boat right there at the studio. He designed the first Jib Roller Reefing mounted on a drum under the stay. He gave the design to Ted Hood during the 1973 Oneton Championship in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. It was on the market the next year. He was in Cousteau's first diving class and they remained close friends.
While there are many who write about the famous sailors of the past, Claude is one of the few who has actually stepped on board their boats, shared stories and knew who they were. Finally, after many years of begging from friends and family, Claude has begun to write! He has an amazing memory filled with stories about his eventful life at sea and. Some are hair-raising while others are hilarious. If anyone knows of a publisher interested in stories from a truly remarkable sailor, please let us know.
Claude sailed the old fashioned way, by the stars and using a sextant. My music simply says " I Love You".
Wandering and exploring with my sailor husband, Claude, I've been touched by many people, stories, sites, and sounds. While I've often taken photos to remember them by, music is my truest way of expressing.
As the melodies started to accumulate, my daughter, Christina, had the idea of asking a world class group to record them. While I've been a performer for most of my life, I'm learning that as a writer it's good to not limit myself to only what I can play myself. So we asked ENSEMBLE GALILEI, a Grammy Nominated Early Music/Celtic/Classical Crossover Group (www.EGMusic.com), to arrange and record the tunes, giving birth to this gorgeous CD! Thank you Ensemble Galilei! My heart has been heard!
When my former music partner, Gordon Bok (www.TimberheadMusic.com), heard our CD he wrote me saying, "It blew our hatches off!!" - obviously he's a sailor too ;-) More officially, he wrote in our liner note, "With so many tastes and textures, this CD is a feast for the musical gourmet."
