Jeff Mondak songs
To my surprise, it has been almost three years since I wrote this somewhat goofy, nonsensical lyric (when I posted it in the Writer's Room, Harry Leff likened it to Ogden Nash, which I certainly appreciated). Anyhow, I was in Dublin in July, and while there I had a very nice time visiting with Mick Brady--Bopper here on Songramp. And Mick agreed to give the song a go. I think he did a terrific job with it.

Triple the Pickle

Oh, ravish the radish and channel the cheese.
The earthworms are praying, but not on their knees.
Pity the pretty who’re losing their looks.
Accountants who litter are trashing the books.
Delicate dolphins who dance on the moon
Say Flipper flips pancakes a little too soon.
Triple the pickle and double the rent,
I don’t think it’s broken, but Lordy it’s bent.
Before, before, before
Before, before, before
I’ve heard it said more than once
That it’s all been said before
The pandas will panic with shadings of gray,
So hide all the hippos who happen this way.
Unions and onions, I’m paying my dues
While Three-Fingered Willie keeps countin’ by twos.
That frog on the toadstool, he’s so out of place.
The sketchpad has vanished, of course there’s no trace.
A rickety rhombus is feeling awry.
It’s too soon to know but it’s too late to try.
Before, before, before
Before, before, before
I’ve heard it said more than once
That it’s all been said before
Slanty italics are not to be trusted,
So sprinkle some dust where it needs to be dusted.
A choice to be made is there for the choosing,
Yet this one or that one, neither is losing.
Before, before, before
Before, before, before
I’ve heard it said more than once
That it’s all been said before
