Russ Reilly songs
Years ago I was briefly in a training program for a bank customer service position. The fair-haired young girl who sat next to me took it upon herself to tell me her life story during our breaks. It seems she had spent much of the prior year holed up in a trailer with a bunch of her friends getting high. One of them worked for a dentist and somehow was able to smuggle out large quantities of nitrous oxide, or "laughing gas". They would seal up the trailer completely, release the gas and lie around for hours breathing it in and spacing out.
NO2 is habit-forming and extremely dangerous when abused and eventually the episodes turned dark and one kid ended up permanently brain-damaged. The girl felt lucky to have escaped this "lifestyle" and was trying to get her life back together. Banking was not for me and I lost touch with her after leaving the program, but I've always been struck by the image of those kids in that trailer, and how apt a metaphor it was for wasted youth, pun intended....
nitro junkies
my friends broke in
and stole a tank of pure delight
my friends broke down
and blew away their darkest frowns
now we all found
a way to fly
and soar into
a nitro sky
we all left
behind our cares
by breathing in
the sweetest air...
nothing seems to matter anymore
since we've been under
nothing makes a bit of sense for sure
to a NITRO JUNKIE!!
nothing seems to matter anymore
and the world is a wonder
nothing could ever surpass...
LAUGHING GAS..LAUGHING GAS..LAUGHING GAS!!!
my friends don't work
they sing and dance and go berserk
my friends don't speak
they mumble like a circus freak
now we all seem
to lose our minds
and blame each other
all the time
we all found
a way to die
and tumble from
the nitro sky....
(CHORUS)
our trailer is the universe
and i could stop if you stop first
but when i try to weep
i laugh myself to sleep.....
(CHORUS)
LAUGHING GAS..LAUGHING GAS..LAUGHING GAS......
