Boxes lined our hallway, that cold December day

I held my brother Tommy, as tears streamed down his face

he said, "I'll be good I promise", Daddy gave him one last kiss

silently we stood and waved as Daddy drove away

Mama peeked through the white sheers, shedding only one brave tear

watched as Daddy's tail lights, slowly disappeared

she said, "God it's almost Christmas, how will we all adjust?"

whispered, "don't you worry Dear, Santa's coming here"

On red construction paper, I wrote my Christmas list

so when Daddy comes to visit, they won't fight anymore

we pretended not to listen, when she asked him to come home

heard her say," I need you too and the kids are missing you"

my heart was filled with brand new hope, as she read my Christmas note
