I wrote and recorded this last winter when I had a terrible head cold, thought I'd re-record the vocals when my throat wasn't raw. Every time I'd listen to it later I could tell it was pitchy but was the most raspy Dylan like that I'd ever sounded. I never redid it, it's one of my personal favorites of anything I've written, your children grow up and become what they will, your greatest legacy.
This is a song on the new Blue As The Sky CD at CD Baby, check it out, there's still plenty of digital downloads available!

Child Of Mine
K Leverett © 2012
You are young and you’re allowed
To make your own mistakes
And I’ll still be proud
I’ve seen you grow from a tiny pup
All you’ve gotta do now
Is to never give up
And I’ll be there if you ever do fall
I’m right here whenever you call
Well I envy you with all your energy
The best is yet to come, and you will see
Keep your head on straight
Keep your chin up
You get back what you put in
And life will fill your cup
Child of mine
Oh child of mine
Child of mine
Well I was once standin’ in your shoes
I didn’t get that far, I wish better for you
And tho’ me and your Ma couldn’t work it out
We both love you and there’s no doubt
And I’ll be there if ever you fall
I’m right here whenever you call
And even tho’ you never can tell
Well I know that you’ll do well
Child of mine
Child of mine
Oh child of mine
You’ll find love, you’ll find heartache
I hope you never lose hope
I hope you never lose faith
And I’ll be there if you ever do fall
I’m right here if ever you call
And even tho’ you never can tell
Well I know that you’ll do well
Child of mine
Child of mine
Oh child of mine
