Great song by Scott Campbell, who kindly allowed me to record over his track. Mike Caro Substudio of NYC instruments & production. Scott Campbell on backing vocals.
This is where my voice was 2 yrs ago. I'm stronger now & want to recut everything. Mainly been working on covers.... then had an accident with a kitchen knife which took off an entire fingernail (OUCH! christened the knife Gollum) and I've been out of commission for getting anything done for 2-3 weeks and backed up on vocals & other collabs.
Anyway here you can see how my vibrato has to "go" for me to sound current/pop/not weird in this type of song (no need to tell me things I know, LOL) --which I can do now...... also maybe should recut an octave lower (also possible) ..... well I just wanted to share something today and don't have a lot "finished & polished" in the box. :)
Still Making It Up As We Go
by Scott W. Campbell
You didn't come with instructions
but then what good would they be?
you've always been a moving target
with a fresh scheme up your sleeve
and though I'm sometimes skeptical
I help you play them out
cuz your vision of the two of us
is one I never doubt
(chorus)
we seek
we plan
we leap
we land
but it's the bends in the flow
where we lend and we owe
still making it up as we go
nobody gave us a manual
would've gone out of date anyhow
I look at that girl in our wedding photos
and she's a stranger to me now
so in another twenty years
I don't know what I'll be
but the one thing that I'm sure of is
you'll still believe in me
chorus
baby we're a work in progress
and our pallette is still wet
better get a bigger canvas
cuz we ain't seen our best days yet
not yet
lead break
it's the bends in the flow
where we blend and we grow
still making it up as we go
