This is a true story,
  this really happened to me.


          Get off the bus 
 
Well I took my mama to see George Jones

   when he played the county fair

 even bought her a souvenier jacket 

  just to prove that she was there

when the show was over old George

 he made a beeline for his bus

and people lined up outside 
   
   to see he'd sign some of their stuff

they'd step up in the front of his bus 

   and send their stuff back for George to sign

I'd thought I'd be a nice guy

   and give a little lady cuts in line

when it came my turn to get  mama's jacket autographed

   the driver said George is done signin' boy

we gotta leave here fast

   I didn't think gettin' an autograph

get my ass off George's bus

   gettin all beat up didn't make a whole hell of alot of sense

I'd just sign old George's name myself
   
   and mama'd never know the difference
