I Don't Even Know You Yet
Jaime Fox / Steve Harris

Folks, I like to give the story behind the inspiration of a song idea. I first met Jaime Fox from a mutual friend of ours, Nashville singer/songwriter Steff Mahan back in 04 (or so). I followed Jaime's career through her myspace and even hired her to sing on my first co-write with Marc Alan Barnette called "Mr. Attitude" . I just loved her voice and her pleasant personality. A fellow SongRamp member (Rick Hall) posted a couple years ago that Jaime was getting married. A few months ago Rick posted again that Jaime was expecting her first child. Jaime and I had talked about writing a song together; but I was trying to get better at my songwriting skills before I approached her for a co-write. Now the oppurtunity came because of my true life experience and also a life experience Jaime was now going through. Parenthood.
Back in 1979 my wife (at that time) was expecting our first (and only child). I was so taken by how she had bonded with our child before he was ever born. I didn't totally relate; because I'm a guy.
When I heard that Jaime was expecting her first child I thought that maybe she was experiencing the same feelings (that my wife did back then). I approached her with the song idea and she agreed to co-write the song.
I have to admit that Jaime is a very seasoned songwriter and she had to carry me through this song. She also has a very good feel (as an Artist) for the Contemporary sound in todays Country market. I give her all of the credit for this song and praise her for her performance. Here it is:
I Don't Even Know You Yet:
If I ever doubted the man upstaris
it only took a heartbeat to make me believe
Like a song sent down from the heavens
there's a melody growing inside of me
Won't be long till I hold you in my arms
and I learn what love is
Child your all the proof I need to know that God exists
And I don't even know you yet
Chorus:
The sweetest smile I've never seen
The brightest eyes that haven't looked at me
Two hands I've never held, a kiss I've never felt
A bond that's growing stronger every day
somehow I know I'll never be the same
From your very first breath, I know that I'll be blessed
And I don't even know you yet
I don't even know what you look like
or what kind of soul you'll be
Will you have your father's sense of reason
or be a dreamer just like me
Maybe you will find a path that's all your own
and God I hope you do
Whoever you become, I'm already proud of you
Chorus:
Instrumental:
1/2 chorus:
A bond that's growin stronger every day
somehow I know I'll never be the same
From your very first breath, I know that I'll be blessed
And I don't even know you yet.
