Barnette/Harris/Hoggard
Recorded Jay's Studio /Nashville
Mixed by "Big Ed"
Vocals/ Marc Alan Barnette
I had a Tour scheduled with MAB on Monday 7/19/10, SongRamp's Matt Hoggard joined us for a writing session (it was good to have you join us Mattly). The first question is always "Whatcha Got" . We discussed the great men of history and how they endured so much. The idea of 'better men than me' came from that . That's how the song got started. MAB put together our ideas and came up with this melody (he is such a pleasure to work with). We liked the song so MAB included it with some songs he was recording with SongRamps "Big Ed" the very next day. Big Ed took the tracks back to L.A. with him and mixed this for us (Thanks Big Ed). Thanks to Jay and his crew of fine musicians.
A special "Thanks" to MAB for his professionalism and for all he does to make us better songwriters.

That Better Man Than Me
Last night on that channel about history
I was watching biographies
of George Washington and Martin Luther King
The hurdles they both stuggled with
lives of constant challenges
Gives the way I view life, a whole different meaning
Lift:
Those are quite some legacies to live up to
And nothing like that I could ever do
But if I work every day in little ways
When they talk about me maybe someday they'll say
Chorus:
That I helped somebody else in my own way
Paid it forward, set somebody straight
Gave somebody inspiration
Helped them live up to expectations
Left a smile on somebody's face
Made the world a better place
cause I always tried to be
like that better man than me
Helped a stranger change a tire on a red hot day
Get some ladies, out of gas, back on their way
Help a neighbor clean up after a storm
There's a whole lot of people who did that for me
Lots of lessons I'm still learning
That's what keeps me remembering where I'm from
lift:
I'll never row across the icy Delaware
But I've got a dream I hope I'll share
It's not about fame, riches or glory
But maybe someday they'll tell my story
