This one is definitely of the fairytale variety, a story of a Knight and his Lady. This is a newer version, with fuller orchestration and a newer vocal recording.
Three Promises
Music by Lee McAboy and Lyrics by Sheila Kaufman
Over in the meadow, underneath the stars,
He stands with his back to the moon.
Wrapped up in his woolen cloak,
A gift from his true love,
Knowing that they’ll be parting soon…
Right by his side is his sweet lady fair.
She is fighting to hold back the tears.
Her scarf round his neck and the wind in his hair,
She’s wrapped in his strong embrace,
Feeling his warmth, As their parting nears.
Gathered at the windows of cottages nearby,
Villagers watch two lovers start
Trying hard to find a way to say goodbye,
Knowing they’re reluctant to part.
“I’ll give you my horse and I’ll give you my land
And I’ll give you my promises three.
I’ll give you my cart and I’ll give you my hand
If you’ll come riding home,
If you’ll come home Safely to me.”
As he moves towards
His Fresian steed,
People come pouring,
They’re all adoring,
Coming to wish him Godspeed.
They’re swept apart,
Their fingers entwined,
eyes full of yearning
Both of them learning
No greater love will they find.
Silently she blows him a kiss.
Whispering to no one other than the Wind
As he disappears in the mist,
“I’ll give you my horse and I’ll give you my land
And I’ll give you my promises three.
I’ll give you my Heart and I’ll give you my hand
If you’ll come riding home, If you’ll come home
Safely to me, Safely to me.”
