Ritt approached me a couple of days ago with a touching piece that he had written about the two Haitian children, miraculously pulled alive from the rubble seven days after the earthquake. He asked if I would like to contribute anything to it. Of course, I jumped at it! This is the result.  Our every good thought goes out to the children and families affected by this devastation.

A Saving Grace

two Haitian children
long thought dead
victims of the earthquake
buried alive
huddled together
crying for water
beneath the rubble
of Port a Prince.

two children happily playing
when the earth started violently quaking
they found themselves in a place
where hopelessness showed it's ugly face
until the miracle of a saving grace
a saving grace

seven days passed.
with scientific certainty
they couldn't last 
that long.
imagine their fear
utter darkness,after shocks,
falling debri
their cries beyond hearing
no one answering their plea
short of God reappearing.
"It is truly a miracle" 
as the NY rescue team
pulls out the little boy, 
his arms raised in joy
in triumph, victory.
brother and sister
are doing well,
"Blessed by the gods"
to hear the French surgeon tell.
