When I told Marc I wanted to write a song called Red Riding Hood Lied I could see his eyes glaze over. But I knew his sense of humor was what this song needed. I'd already done a couple of other more serious songs about wolves, but this one needed to be able to carry a message in a lighter way. I think he even surprised himself with what we came up with. :)
RED RIDING HOOD LIED
MAB/SHEILA KAUFMAN
4-8-13
Was a clear cut case of character assassination
Little girl, her hoodie and the lies she was making
When she told her Grandma, about Big Bad Me
Started a long line of very tall tales
Put me and my kind in wildlife hell
When something bad happens, we’re blamed for everything
From Lon Chaney and Hollywood
They say “Hey he ain’t up to no good”
CHORUS
RED RIDING HOOD LIED
NOT A WORD IS TRUE
WE’RE JUST RUNNING ROUND THE WOODS
TRYING TO FIND SOME FOOD
DON’T WEAR SHEEPS CLOTHING TALKING WHEN WE HOWL
WON’T HUFF AND PUFF AND BLOW YOUR HOUSE DOWN
WE’RE JUST A BREED TRYING TO GET BY
RED RIDING HOOD LIED
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
JUST AIN’T TRUE
How did we get this evil reputation
Of being the Devil’s incarnation
We’re victims of having our species defamed
We’re really all some pretty good guys
Just raisin’ our children, lovin’ our wives
Never ate a human, cause we can’t stand the taste
If you cut through, all this mythology fog
You might find we’re just like your dog
Chorus
Bridge
So next time someone finds a dead cow
Don’t blame the full moon beaming down
fore you point fingers, do some pausin’
Just might have died from natural causes
