Norman Harris songs
I just needed to do this one quickly this evening! It's a song about how selfishness can end up spoiling your future and how time can pass and you suddenly realise it's too late for many important things.
"Always Thus"
Somedays when the time passes slowly
I sit and think of the blank spaces in my life
Where people wander in and out like a sliding door
And the cold air blowing through cuts like a knife
Was there a time you were hidden in my heart?
I remember when you were excited and emotional
Your hands moved in such a graceful arc
And your voice whispered a sweet madrigal
Chorus:
Was it always thus? Did I fail to reach out for you?
Was I too precious, too scared to lose?
Was it a time in your life when you needed me
But I was too wrapped up, incoherent and obtuse?
For me I had everything I needed to be
But the beauty that you gave I was too blind to see
Where would we now had I thought of us as one
Had I not planned for my own ends it seems?
Would we be sharing our days and nights with someone
Who would be our reason for all our dreams?
Chorus
Bridge:
For I had everything I needed to be ... I was too blind to see
Instead of sitting here watching you watching us grow
Into a steady state of love without fear
I watch the world go by ever so bleak and ever so slow
While I imagine you giving and receiving love so clear
Chorus
For I had everything I needed to be ... I was too blind to see
