Hi folks. I have a new Songramp member to introduce, Mary Madison, of Davis, California. Mary and I met recently through our mutual friend Mark Lubell. Mark and I used to work together in Florida. Now I'm in Illinois, and Mark and Mary work together in Davis. Anyhow, Mark suggested I try putting some lyrics together for his bluegrass band, and I was happy to give it a whirl. He then ran them by Mary, and she put together her own version of the song. Mary added a verse to what I wrote, and put together everything else. I think Mark's band also may do a version, and I'm certainly hopeful they will--one of the things I enjoy the most here is hearing different takes on the same lyrics. Mary's UserID here on Songramp is LittleHippie. Look for her!
Tomorrow Morning's Train Music
arranged and performed by Mary Madison
Lyrics by Jeff Mondak and Mary Madison
This once had been such fertile ground
But now Black Sunday's brought us down
There's barren land for miles around
We're leaving on the train
The children, they don't understand
They ask if this is what God planned
The banker took our home and land
We're leaving on the train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
Don't know where, don't know when
We'll find a place that's home again
This line of tracks is our only friend
We're leaving on the train
We're gonna tell the engineer
We're riding 'til the sky is clear
And Oklahoma disappears
We're leaving on the train
The dust has turned our future black
We're heading west, no looking back
All we got is this old track
We're leaving on the train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
Don't know where, don't know when
We'll find a place that's home again
This line of tracks is our only friend
We're leaving on the train
Well, my folks was born and raised right here
They pressed their backs into the years
They're under all the dust and tears
Right next to this train
Now I hear there's crops out to the sea
The west wind blowing cool and free
But God knows I am leaving me
When I get on that train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
We're leaving on tomorrow morning's train
Don't know where, don't know when
We'll find a place that's home again
This line of tracks is our only friend
We're leaving on the train
This once had been such fertile ground
But now Black Sunday's brought us down
There's barren land for miles around
We're leaving on the train
