LOVE MAKES A HOME
Written by James Cain
The screen door didn't have a screen
The siding was missing in places
The yard needed mowing
Cold air blew through cracks and spaces
Our little house on Mary Street
Didn't look like much
It was old and falling down
But it was full of love
Love makes a home
We had water balloon fights and hide and seek
Climbing trees and playing in the creek
Ice cream made from the second snow
Mamas hugs and laughter to help us grow
Love makes a home
Daddy had a problem with whiskey
It helped him drown out the war
It was his drinking that kept us dirt poor
We didn't have much money
Our clothes were worn and old
But Mama always taught
Love is better than gold
Love makes a home
We had water balloon fights and hide and seek
Climbing trees and playing in the creek
Ice cream made from the second snow
Mamas hugs and laughter to help us grow
Love makes a home
If I had a mansion sitting on a 10 acre lot
Imported marble on the floor
A lake out back with a dock
I would mean nothing
If nobody cared about me
I would give it all away
For that little house on Mary Street
Love makes a home
We had water balloon fights and hide and seek
Climbing trees and playing in the creek
Ice cream made from the second snow
Mamas hugs and laughter to help us grow
Love makes a home
Love makes a home
