March 3, 2011, marks what would have been my dad's 100th birthday. Although he was not Irish, I think he'd be happy to raise a glass...
Father And Son
By my father's side I sat as a child
At wonder the stories he told
Of knights in armor fightin' for honor
Heros brave and bold
When a man I became the stories remained
And we'd laugh at the tales every one
So raise a glass to the memories that last
Between father and son
He wasn't a rich man with pockets of coin
The land was not his that he tilled
The seeds that he sowed sometimes did not grow
And his path ran always uphill
But he taught us to be strong and to know right from wrong
His wealth was his love and lesson
So raise a glass to the fortune that's passed
Between father and son
When a son is born to the world he comes
With promise undenied
And a father knows he has farther to go
And it goes in the blink of an eye
He must show direction and teach him the lessons
For the years will not be out run
So raise a glass because time goes fast
Between father and son
Yes raise a glass to the love that will last
Between father and son
